Get in TouchA fire risk assessment is a systematic and thorough evaluation of a building, structure, or facility to identify potential fire hazards, assess the risks associated with those hazards, and develop a plan to mitigate or manage those risks.
Key components of a Fire risk Assessment include:
The assessment begins by identifying potential fire hazards within the premises. These hazards can include electrical equipment, flammable materials, heating systems, cooking facilities, and more.
Once the hazards are identified, the assessment evaluates the likelihood of a fire occurring and the potential consequences if a fire were to happen.
Installing or upgrading fire detection and alarm systems and ensuring proper maintenance of equipment. Implementing fire-resistant construction materials and developing and practicing evacuation procedures. Training personnel on fire safety and emergency response.
Fire risk assessments are not static documents; they should be reviewed and updated regularly to account for changes in occupancy, building modifications, or new hazards that may arise.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO) states that all non-domestic premises housing must review the following on an annual basis:
Five stages of a fire risk assessment:
Each of the above should be rated according to the level of risk. If the risk identified in any area is too high, you then need to put an action plan in place to reduce the risk (with timescales and lines of responsibility).
You should consider potential improvements and maintenance requirements, as well as future training needs. All of your findings must be documented, and these records retained for inspection and review purposes.
Any organisation (whether commercial or not for-profit) must complete a written and specific fire risk assessment on an annual basis.
